In 2018, the AMC (Academic Medical Center) and VUmc (VU medical center) merged administratively. They continued together under the name Amsterdam UMC. With this merger, they want to increase the quality of patient care by bringing care for specific groups of patients to one location.
This will happen in clinical birth care on November 29, 2021. This means that from that moment on there will be no more deliveries at the VUmc location. Births, acute care and emergency will only take place at the AMC location from November 29, 2021.
The department of prenatal diagnosis and intensive care for newborns (NICU) will also be concentrated at the AMC location.
From June 1, 2022 the Prenatal clinic (pregnancy check-ups) and the policlinic care for newborns (neonatal follow-me clinics) will also move to the AMC location.
